Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey is one of the most highly regarded theatre schools in the UK with a vibrant community of performers, performance makers, creative practitioners and technicians graduating from our wide variety of programmes each year.

Building on a heritage of over 80 years and our reputation as arguably the leading musical theatre school in the world, we are passionate about helping our students to develop the practical, inter-personal and intellectual skills needed to make them employable in today’s highly competitive and ever-evolving creative industry.

Founded in 1998 by Wasfi Kani OBE, Grange Park Opera has staged more than 50 operas, including the acclaimed productions of RusalkaTristan und IsoldePeter Grimes, and Fiddler on the Roof with Bryn Terfel at the BBC Proms.

Grange Park Opera held their last season at The Grange, in Hampshire, in 2016.

In 2017 the company relocated to West Horsley Place, Surrey. West Horsley Place is a 300-acre estate with a glorious, sprawling 15th century house surrounded by formal gardens with secret corners, aged trees, box hedges and a majestic crinkle crankle wall.

The house was inherited in 2015 by author and broadcaster Bamber Gascoigne from his aunt Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe. He gifted the estate to the Mary Roxburghe Trust.

Godalming Operatic Society is widely regarded as one of the country’s leading Gilbert and Sullivan Societies. The Society was founded in 1924 and had its first production, The Yeomen of the Guard, in 1925. Since then (excepting the war years) it has put on a major Gilbert and Sullivan production every year, including the more rarely performed works such as ‘The Grand Duke’ and ‘Utopia Ltd.’

Currently we perform a fully staged G&S opera every February, with a full 22+ piece professional orchestra under our Musical Director, David Wright.

In June or July we put on a smaller scale work, often at a smaller local venue such as the Wilfrid Noyce Centre in Godalming. Our previous summer productions range from a concert version of ‘Aida’ to ‘The Zoo’ by Arthur Sullivan and most recently our 2019 Summer concert ‘A Night at the Opera’ featuring a wonderful selection of grand opera arias, ensembles and chorus pieces.
