Gag House Comedy Clubs was set up in 2014 in Guildford by the team behind Guildford Fringe Festival. Since then and since the growing popularity of the clubs they have spread their wings further afield than just Guildford and are hopefully popping up in a town near you soon.
All comedians that come to Gag House Comedy Clubs are professional comics and are working on the UK circuit. We do not offer open spots to amateurs so you can rest assured when you come a Gag House Comedy Club that you will be experiencing the best comedians available to us.

Currently under the directorship of Joanna Read, the theatre presents a mixed year-round production schedule that includes an annual pantomime. Its scenery workshop builds for Glyndebourne, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Chichester Festival Theatre. A youth department offers regular productions in the Mill Studio and an annual summer musical on the main stage.The wider theatre space is used for arts and functional purposes including art exhibitions and the annual film season feature, and includes a restaurant and bar.
The Mill Studio
Originally the eighteenth-century Town Mill building housed the theatre’s workshops. The studio opened in 1993 as a base for the Youth Theatre’s activities. In 1997, a National Lottery grant was used to upgrade the facilities, enabling expansion in audience capacity and the range of productions presented.

“At Guildford Fringe Theatre Company we believe that you don’t need all the bells and whistles that you sometimes get with West End and major Regional theatre productions.
As Peter Brook said in his book, The Empty Space, “A man walks across this empty space whilst someone else is watching him, and this is all that is needed for an act of theatre to be engaged.”
Brilliantly put and we are putting this into practise. We are gaining a reputation for producing top class professional theatre and events across Guildford. Our goal is make theatre more accessible by using venues such as The Back Room of The Star Inn. We have found an audience that would perhaps shy away from going to the ‘theatre’ but would happily sit and watch a show in the back of a pub where there is a more relaxed and less structured feel.
As well as theatre we also host monthly professional comedy clubs (Guildford Gag House andYou Must Be Stoking) and regular burlesque cabarets. Our aim is to continue to bring quirky events to our wonderful town and we would like to thank the Friends of the Fringe for their continued support and to all of our audience that keep coming along!”
