We are proud to be part of our local community and perform around and about several times each year. Highlights over the last ten years have included Guilfest, Christmas lights switch-on in Guildford High Street, celebrating dawn on May Day at St Martha’s, carol concerts, pub singing and even the occasional flash mob! Further afield we took our choir on tour to Frieburg, Guildford’s twin town in Germany and also to Scotland. In the recent past our gig venues have also included Normandy Therapy Garden, Loseley Park, Shalford Mill, Polesden Lacey and Brighton.

What makes a small village choral society survive for nearly 120 years?

Details of the very early years, sadly have become lost in the mists of time. Some sources record that the society was formed out of the “church choir” (presumably St. Mary’s Church, Shalford) however  the Leith Hill Musical Festival’s publication “Music Won The Cause” suggests that the choir was formed “ in order to participate in the first Leith Hill Music Festival”

Mosaic is a lively group of singers based in Woking, although we travel from all over Surrey, Hampshire and London for rehearsals. Our blend of musical expertise, ranging from music graduates, ex-Cathedral choristers, operatic soloists, to members of dance bands and highly experienced choral singers, enables us to perform music from a wide range of genres.

Mosaic aims to perform to a high standard and always to entertain our audiences. We sing music from Renaissance to the present day, both secular and sacred. Composers range from Tallis to Tavener, Bizet to The Beatles and beyond. Recent concerts have included pieces performed acappella, with a chamber orchestra, with piano accompaniment, and with a string quartet.

We are available to sing at weddings and events, and we hold several concerts a year to raise funds for charities and good causes in Surrey and beyond. We regularly take part in the Brandenburg Choral Festival and have performed in several prestigious London venues.

We are currently recruiting new members, especially tenors. We rehearse on a Monday night in Goldsworth Park, Woking.

We sing unaccompanied 4 part close harmony and Barbershop styles. We enjoy ourselves but are prepared to work hard to make the chords ring out, leading to a spine tingling sound. Singing with us is more about singing in a group and learning to work together to make it sound just right. It is also about having fun and making new friends.
