This exciting concert by the Waverley Singers features two exciting and increasingly popular jazz settings of the traditional Mass, both ideally suited to The Maltings.

Will Todd’s ‘Mass in Blue’ (2003) is ‘an upbeat jazz setting of the Latin mass text for soprano soloist and four-part chorus’. The composer and the other members of the Will Todd Ensemble (piano, double bass, saxophone, drums) will accompany the choir and soprano soloist Lisa Swayne in what promises to be a zingy performance.

Bob Chilcott’s ‘A Little Jazz Mass’ for choir with piano accompaniment is one of the composer’s most celebrated works. Since its appearance in 2004 it has been performed all around the world and has also featured as part of the liturgy, including in St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

In addition to these two choral works, the concert will also feature a jazz set by the Will Todd Ensemble.

The Waverley Singers is a long-established, friendly and enterprising choir of around 100 singers, based in Farnham, Surrey.  Our musical director is Richard Pearce.

We perform four or more concerts a year with professional soloists and instrumentalists, in venues which include St. Andrew’s church, Farnham, St Lawrence’s church, Alton, Farnham Maltings, St Andrew’s Garrison church, Aldershot, and Guildford Cathedral.
