There are sore heads all round when the crafty Falke plots an elaborate “Bat’s revenge” on his friend Eisenstein in this exuberant tale of mistaken identity, faux infidelity and drunken frivolity.

An array of eccentric characters add to the confusion, including a bored Russian prince hosting a lavish ball, a scheming maid, an inept lawyer, and two hopeless prison officials;  and while Eisenstein’s wife Rosalinda struggles to control her ex-lover, her husband contemplates some extra-marital fun himself with the aid of his trusty “seduction watch”!

This new version of Strauss’s best-loved operetta retains the traditional setting and all his wonderful music – though be prepared for an overture with a difference!

Guildford Opera’s production is fully staged, presented in English with surtitles, and accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

Free pre-show talk at 6.30pm before Friday’s performance by directors Lewis Gaston and Peter Melville
