Emma Stepney

Emma is an abstract artist based in Cranleigh. She completed her Art Foundation at Kingston University and a Fine Art degree at Winchester School of Art, where she specialised in painting. Emma teaches A Level Art and Design and Graphic Design at a local sixth form college, which she has done for the last 14 years. Emma spends a lot of time in Cornwall and she is inspired by the ruggedness and ever changing coastline. She also enjoys taking inspiration from the beautiful landscape scenes around Surrey and Sussex, particularly Newlands Corner and Pitch Hill.

Emma enjoys experimenting with layers of oil paint, drawing into the paint with pastels, chalks and charcoal to create a sense of movement and energy. She likes to start by drawing onto the surface, gradually building up layers of paint using brushes, sponges and washes of paint. Emma enjoys experimenting with the paint; scratching into and drawing over the surface to add texture to her paintings.
