The Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2014. It started life as an ordinary 18th century barn. By the mid 1980’s it had fallen into poor repair, but was used by Elmbridge Borough Council as a store for parks maintenance equipment.
In 1985, an enlightened group of local residents recognised the building’s potential as a much needed arts centre for the Walton community. Establishing the Walton-on-Thames Community Trust to manage the process, a plan was hatched to acquire and develop the building, and secure the funding. Elmbridge itself played a major part in realising the dream by leasing the building on a peppercorn rent to the Trust.
The design of the Riverhouse Barn offers a wide range of spaces that can be easily adapted to meet most requirements for theatrical, musical and business events, as well as exhibitions. Our on-site catering from the Riverhouse Kitchen & Bar, outside spaces and ample parking ensure that the needs of everyone, including the disabled, are catered for.
