The church is a Grade I listed building, within the Old Woking Conservation Area. St Peter's was originally the parish church of Woking prior to the development of a new urban area, now called Woking, centred on the railway station. The village of Woking subsequently became known as Old Woking. The Domesday Book records a church at "Wochinges" (an old name for Woking). An early written record relates to the foundation of a minster, dedicated to St Peter in the year 675.

The Spire Church is a newly formed church created through a partnership between Farnham United Reformed Church and Farnham Methodist Church.

Both churches have worshipped in South Street since the 1870s and have enjoyed a very friendly relationship stretching back over many decades.  We have frequently shared services and exchanged preachers, as well as having joint Sunday Schools and social activities in earlier years.

St Martha’s Church occupies one of the most striking settings of any place of worship in Britain, perched on the crown of a hill 574 feet up and with no road leading to it.

The story of St Martha’s, and its hill, dates back to the Iron Age. It involves the Saxons, Normans and monks who worshiped here, a murder in a cathedral, the fabled Pilgrims Way, a massive explosion, and the vision of a young Victorian architect. It was touched by the threat from German Zepplins in World War 1 and by the age of supersonic flight in the 1970s. Yet, mostly, it is the story of the local men and women who, throughout a thousand years of history, were inspired by their faith to climb this lonely hill on the North Downs to worship God.

The approach to the redundant church of St Peter and St Paul is through the grounds of Albury Park. The building dates from Saxon and Norman times. The interior is uncluttered and light with a flagstone floor. The door dates from the 13th century, a well-preserved painting of St Christopher dates from the 15th, and there is a brass of John Weston who died in 1440.
