Grayshott Folk Club Christmas Special: Johnny Coppin & Band perform “All On A Winter’s Night”

Wednesday 20th December 7.30pm

Here at Grayshott Folk Club, we always endeavour to put on something joyful, seasonal and uplifting at this time of year and we are delighted to have rearranged this Christmas Special which was originally booked to happen in December 2020.  Drawing on material from five Christmas albums, Johnny Coppin, one of England’s finest singer/songwriters presents a rich mix of carols and songs old and new, together with stories and folklore.

Johnny’s effortless vocals have graced the Folk-scene since the emergence of Decameron in the early 1970s.  An accomplished and experienced solo performer, he is a talented song writer and a fine interpretative singer.

Johnny has recorded over fourteen albums including his latest River of Dreams and has worked as a solo performer playing his own material and new arrangements of traditional Folk songs. He is renowned for his clear vocals, guitar and keyboard playing. He had a hit collaboration with well-loved writer Laurie Lee on the album Edge Of Day, setting Lee’s poems to music, and for twenty years had a weekly show on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.  He writes and directs the music for touring Shakespeare productions by the Festival Players Theatre Company.

‘Strong, clear vocals, and songs of substance’ (The Daily Telegraph)

‘One of the finest voices in his field’ (Q Magazine).

PAUL BURGESS on violin, recorders, and stories. A member of the Old Swan Band, and a leading exponent of the English-style of fiddle playing. Paul has played in a wide range of groups and orchestras including the John Kirkpatrick Band, and in TV productions of Far From the Madding Crowd and Wives and Daughters and wrote and performed the music for the Cider With Rosie serial on BBC Radio 4.

DIK CADBURY on guitars, is best known as bassist/vocalist with Decameron and Steve Hackett. He played for us at Grayshott a few years back with Mike D’Abo (Manfred Mann) and Dik now performs both as a solo artist and in the Julie July Band. He has released two solo albums and a duo album with former Steve Hackett vocalist Pete Hicks.
