Seurat was a painter and draughtsman and the founder of Neo-Impressionism. Inspired by the scientific and aesthetic theories of the time he developed a method of painting in small dots of unmixed colour. When placed closely together these mix on the eye and create a wonderful sense of luminosity. He named this technique Divisionism, now more popularly known as Pointillism.
